The Office for Recreation and Sport is committed to increasing the quality and level of participation of all South Australians in active recreation, sport and physical activity. An important aim of the Recreation and Sport Development Division is supporting policies and programs focussed on the needs of children and youth, from birth to eighteen years of age.
Designated Officers support young people who wish to participate in formal settings such as schools, community clubs and community centres. Support is also provided to parents and carers and those that work with young people in these environments. Junior coaching programs, leadership training services and parent/carer education programs are available along with reference services assisting individuals and groups to link with appropriate and supportive networks at a state and local level.
Officers work closely with other agencies such
as the Australian
Sports Commission, Department
of Education and Children's Services, Australian
Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER) and State Sporting Ass\Organisations to promote the importance of making sport, recreation and physical play not only challenging but a positive and fun activity for young South Australians.
