Youth - Growing for Gold
Growing for Gold is a program that caters for
young people 6-14 years of age.
Modelled on the highly successful program developed
by the City
of Salisbury, GFG introduces young people to active
recreation and sport activities through ‘come and play’
styled sessions.
GFG has three primary aims:
- To provide an avenue through which local
active recreation and sport clubs can promote the programs
and services they provide for young people
- To provide young people with an opportunity
to participate in physical activity based programs that
provide them with a positive experience
- To increase the number of young people actively
involved in long-term community based physical activity
programs
Built into the program is an incentive scheme
that aims to encourage young people to try a variety of different
active recreation and sport activities then take the next
step and join a club(s) of their choice.
Some basic facts about GFG:
- Program is free or as affordable as possible
for participants
- The focus of the program sessions is on
‘play’ and achieving personal success
- A bronze certificate is awarded if 2 different
activities are tried
- A silver certificate is awarded if 3 or
more activities are tried
- A gold medal and/or certificate is awarded
at the special ceremony if a young person joins a participating
club
