Introduction
The Office for Recreation and Sport (ORS)
works in partnership with Local Governments across the State
to implement a range of initiatives that aim to:
- improve the quality of sport and active recreation
opportunities available to a community
- increase community participation in sport
and active recreation programs
Local Government programs and services supported
by ORS include:
Community Recreation
and Sport Networks
This program is a State, Local Government
and local community partnership initiative. The primary objectives
are to:
- Improve the capacity of government and non-government
organisations to identify and respond effectively to local
needs and issues
- Improve the quality of sport and active recreation
opportunities available to the community
- Increase community participation in sport
and active recreation programs with a particular focus on
targeting groups, which are under-represented in participation
in sport and active recreation in the community
Community organisations that may be involved
in a Network include sport and recreation clubs, health agencies,
local government, state sporting associations, schools, school
councils, disability action groups, womens advisory committees,
local tourism agencies and local businesses. Any group or
individual with an interest in the development of recreation
and sport provision within a community has a potential role
to play.
The ORS has been instrumental in the establishment
and support of Community Recreation and Sport Networks throughout
metropolitan and regional South Australia.
