Recreation and Sport Youth Traineeship Incentive Program - Overview

Would your organisation like another employee in 2009? Why not consider a Trainee?

The Office for Recreation and Sport offers incentive funding to recreation and sport organisations towards employing a trainee in 2009.

What is a Traineeship?

Traineeships are an employment based program that offers the opportunity for an individual to gain real work skills and qualifications that are recognised throughout Australia, (for example: Certificate III in Sport and Recreation). Visit the Traineeship and Apprenticeship Services Website

What benefits are there to employing a trainee?

Employing a Trainee is a way to enhance your workforce. It is also a cost effective way to develop workers that will better meet the future needs of your organisation and the recreation and sport industry.

Trainees are able to work in many areas, such as:

  • administrative support
  • activity leadership
  • event management assistance and
  • community participation support.

Traineeships are flexible. They can be tailored for full-time and part-time employment. Recreation and sport organisations can also access School-Based Traineeships which can be integrated into a student's SACE Certificate.

Employers of trainees and apprentices may also be eligible to receive further financial incentives from the Commonwealth Government.

Office for Recreation and Sport offers additional incentives

The Office for Recreation and Sport are offering eligible recreation, sport and fitness organisations additional incentives to take on a young Trainee in 2009, through the Recreation and Sport Youth Traineeship Incentive Program.

25 incentive packages of $5,000 each will be available to offset the wages and administrative costs of taking on a Trainee.

This program is being conducted with the industry peak bodies, Recreation SA and Sport SA.

Sport SA has been contracted to provide the following assistance and advice:

  • Provide background information on Traineeships and how these can be of benefit to recreation and sport organisations.
  • Designing a suitable Job & Person Specification.
  • Put you in contact with a suitable New Apprenticeship Centre or Group Training Company.
  • Provide referrals of potential Trainees and assist with the interview and selection process.
  • For Further information visit Sport SA website - www.sportsa.org.au
