Role of ORS
The Office for Recreation and Sport (ORS) has a leadership role in the coordination of a cross government/industry approach to the development, management and promotion of the State Recreational Trails network through the South Australian Trails Coordinating Committee (SATCC).
The SATCC is cross Government/industry group with representation from ORS, Department for Environment and Heritage, South Australian Tourism Commission, Transport SA, Planning SA, Forestry SA and Local Government. The peak recreational bodies of Bicycle SA, Horse SA, Walking SA, Canoe SA and the Scuba Divers Federation of SA Inc are also represented on the Committee.
The State Recreational Trail Network includes walking, cycling, horse riding, canoeing and diving trails. The ORS oversees the management of some of these trails in partnership with local community groups and land managers.
The ORS also continues to work with Local Government, private landowners, land managers and other State Government agencies to protect and secure access for the state trails network through a range of land tenure systems.
