Planning

One of the roles of the Office for Recreation and Sport is to promote a strategic approach to the development of recreation and sport facilities, programs and services. This is achieved through a range of planning processes that are designed to identify the needs of the community and recommend appropriate responses.

The Office for Recreation and Sport is involved in planning projects at the State including the development of strategic planning for State level sports facilities. In the past the Office for Recreation and Sport was also heavily involved in regional recreation, sport and open space planning projects.

Regional Level Planning
Regional level planning is a strategic planning process for a large geographic area, which is called a region. Regional planning involves the Office for Recreation and Sport working with local government and other stakeholders to develop the strategies. The focus of the strategies is to encourage Councils within a region to work together in the provision of facilities and services in order to limit duplication, ensure a coordinated approach and meet community needs.
