The SASI Athletics program is designed
to promote the talents and abilities of the top athletes
in South Australia to give them the best chance to participate
in Australian Squad's and Team's at all age levels.
The SASI program caters for both male
and female athletes and works alongside the existing
School and Club competitions to help strengthen the
level and standing of Athletics both in South Australia
and in Australia.
The Athletics program will also assist
the development of Coaches for South Australia at all
levels.
Elite SASI Squad - AA
sets A & B standards, SASI manages athletes &
administers expenses. Under 23 SASI Squad - AA sets graduating
standards from 20 - 23 , SASI manages athletes &
administers expenses. Under 20 Junior SASI Squad - AA sets
standards based on World junior Qualifying Standards
, SASI manages athletes & administers expenses. Under 18 Youth SASI Squad - AA sets
standards based on World Youth Qualifying Standards
, SASI manages athletes & administers expenses. SASI/ASA Emerging Athlete Squad Squad - SASI sets
qualifying standards. Squad consists of approximately
16 - 18 athletes. Athletes are predominately under 18
years old who qualify for SASI Talent Scholarship automatically
in squad (SASI Talent scholarships are largely determined
by ASA). ASA Development Squad - Once a month
training in winter. State event coaches conduct ASA
administers and feeder program to SASI development Squad
2010 Commonwealth Games Potential
SASI Squad - this is a special initiative which
SASI has developed to assist those athletes who are
outside the AA selection criteria but who have the potential
to make the Commonwealth Games Team.
Once a week competition at Santos during
summer months from November through to March. 4 - 6
Grand Prix meets which are conducted generally from
January through to February. Institutes generally supply
a majority of the athletes which compete in these meets.
National Championships generally held at the end of
February which also act as selection trial for the major
championship of that year. These championships include:
Olympic, World, World junior, World University and World
Youth. World Walks Road and Indoors teams are also selected
from results gathered during the domestic season.
