SASI Scholarship Holders Angela Fimmano, Rachael Quigley and Sian Mclaren have recently returned from Malaysia after helping Australia Qualify for the next stage of the U19 Women's World Cup qualifiers.
Mclaren was faultless in her performance and kept a clean sheet in the Young Matildas 3rd game against Iran with the final score 6-0. Fimmano although hampered by a Hamstring injury battled away valiantly to also perform well and also do her job well against the colourful Iranian women.
Although rested for the Iran game Rachel Quigley started in the final group game against equal top Thailand and went on to continue her goal scoring record notching an early first half Volleyed goal.
As a result of the successful tournament Australia join Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Thailand, China, Chinese Taipei and Vietnam in the final round of qualifiers in August 2009.
In the first game of the AFC U16 Qualifiers young Ruth Wallace started her international career and the tournament with a hat trick and the honour of finishing the game Captain of the Australian U16 national Team in its opening game against Singapore. In the second game the Australians continued there winning ways and now sit top of their group with two matches top play against Philippines (Sat) and Thailand on Monday evening.
News from Malaysia
SASI’s Rachel Quigley and Angela Fimmano have been performing very well for the Australian U19 Squad (Young Matildas) in the AFC U19 Qualifiers for the World Cup. Both starred in the first win against Chinese Taipei (4-0), which got the Young Matildas off to a flying start inn the group tournament.
In the second game against India, Quigley performed brilliantly to score her first International Hat trick in a (18-0) victory putting Australia on top of the group of 5.
Fellow SASI athlete Sian McLaren will be playing her first game of the competition in the important Game against Iran which if successful Australia would qualify for the next stage of the World Cup qualification process.

PROGRAM
OVERVIEW
The SASI Women's Soccer program is a national
training centre (NTC) program that caters for the elite
female soccer players in South Australia. The major
focus of the program is to identify and develop players
for inclusion in the Australian senior and junior teams.
The program also identifies and develops junior players
with the long term potential to participate in national
teams.
The squad competes as a team in the National Women's
Soccer League against other state institute or academy
teams. This team is managed in partnership with the
SA Women's Soccer Association and is coached by the
SASI program coach.
The NTC programs are under the direction of the national
coach through the institute programs. The NTC programs
will identify and train the best available talent, regardless
of age, who show a commitment to achieving excellence
at the highest elite level in the sport.
The SASI Women's Football Program is a partnership program funded and supported by the South Australian government through SASI in partnership with both National and State Sporting Organisation. A key partner in the program is Federation of Football Australia who contributes funding support to the program as part of its National High Performance Plan. The NTC endorsement of the program recognises the status of the program in the sports National High Performance Pathway and also the indirect funding contribution to the SASI program by the Australian Sports Commission through Federation of Football Australia.
