Scholarships - Individual Talented Athlete Awards 2008 - 2009

What is a SASI Talented Athlete Award?
The SASI Talented Athlete Award Program offers financial assistance to talented junior athletes to assist them progress to the senior elite level. Talented Athlete Award recipients will generally have demonstrated an outstanding ability to progress to the senior elite level through their sporting achievements and talent identification in their sport, or through their identification in the SASI Talent Search Program.

SASI Talented Athlete Awards are not available for athletes who are full scholarship holders in a SASI sports squad program or in sports where SASI conducts a SASI squad program relevant to your age group. This Talented Athlete Award Program has been designed to provide financial assistance towards offsetting expenses incurred in:

  • The implementation of a training and competition program including travel and accommodation not met by the club, State or National Sporting Organisation
  • The provision and maintenance of training and competition equipment
  • Other activities essential to support athletes in talent development squad training and competition programs

Talented Athlete Award recipients benefit from a financial grant only.

Who can apply for a SASI Talented Athlete Award?
Before an athlete can be considered for a SASI Talented Athlete Award, the following requirements must be satisfied.

 

The applicant athlete must be:

  • An Australian Citizen and permanently reside in South Australia
  • Aged between 13 and 20 (inclusive, on 30 June 2008)
  • Registered as a competitor with the relevant State Sporting Association (SSA) that is affiliated with a recognised National Sporting Organisation.  Please note that your SSA must be recognised as the peak state body.
  • Recognised as having the ability to reach the elite level of performance.
  • Engaged in a comprehensive program of training and competition.
  • Intending to compete in their sport throughout the following 12 month period or be engaged in a planned rehabilitation program for the next 12 months or part thereof

Priority will be given to athletes:

  • Involved in Commonwealth Games or Olympic Games Sports/Events
  • Representing Australia at World Championships or equivalent events
  • Identified by a SASI Talent Search or Development Program

How do you apply for a SASI Talented Athlete Award?

The applicant must:

  • Please note that applications for the 2009 calendar year are closed

Please note: All details must be completed. Talented Athlete Awards will not be awarded to athletes not planning to be involved in their sport at this level for the period of the Award.

What is the process for assessing scholarship applications?

 

  • Award applications will be assessed by the SASI Sports Funding Committee
  • The committee will take into consideration the performance achievements, and the international, national and state rankings provided by the SSA or NSO
  • A letter will advise scholarship applicants of the outcome of their application
  • State Sporting Associations will also be notified
