Children & Youth - Sport Education in Physical Education Program (SEPEP)

This program is an alternative curriculum model to assist students develop physical, cognitive and social skills. SEPEP requires students to plan, implement and participate in a sporting competition within the context of their physical education program.

Key characteristics of SEPEP include:

  • teachers sharing managerial and instructional duties with students
  • student-centred learning with teacher acting as a facilitator
  • students take on roles outside of just playing (i.e. coach, media, official)
  • students forming matched, mixed-ability teams in a formal schedule of competition
  • activity based on a sporting season
  • an end of season event to highlight achievements of the class
  • linking with the local community
